Values
Our Core Values
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What do we value?
We value relationships…
Relationship with God
Relationship with Jesus Christ
Relationship with each other
Relationship with people beyond the walls of our building
We value people
All races, ages, styles, philosophies, backgrounds, whatever! God loved each of us and calls us to love all people.
We value authenticity
We want to be real in how we approach our faith and the life we are called to live.
We value spiritual growth
We know that God wants us to spiritually grow, but we know that spiritual growth doesn’t happen by trying harder, but by training harder. At Church of he Savior we offer prayer, Bible study, worship, small groups and other activities that will help us train in a way that will bring spiritual development and growth.
We value cultural relevance
We want our music, atmosphere, language, and teaching style to be understandable and relevant to our culture. We totally believe that we can be faithful to the mission and ministry of Jesus Christ while using tools of the culture to communicate that message.
When you get right down to it, our core values are all about JESUS!
Church of the Savior hopes to provide an atmosphere where people can know and experience the power of Jesus Christ. Sunday services provide the opportunity for people to gather and learn more about God and God’s plan for their lives.
Church of the Savior is a United Methodist Community of Faith. What does it mean to be a United Methodist? Maybe a better question is what does it mean to be a Christian? Our denomination gives us a rich heritage of actively engaging the world in ministry and mission. Our founder, John Wesley, believed that Christians, called Methodist, should continue to be in the world to make a difference.
"United Methodist" is a label for a particular movement of the Spirit that has impacted lives for over two hundred years. Since its beginning this movement has been heart centered, and has sought to provide an authentic expression of spirituality for all people. Methodism has sought to combine personal devotion to God AND the practice of living out this devotion in ways that bring compassion and mercy into the world around us.
At Church of the Savior we are more than a label…we are a movement. This movement is big enough to include all people who may share different beliefs but hold in common their love for Jesus Christ. Both President Bush and President Clinton are Methodists, so this alone should tell you that in our church there is a place for ALL people with diverse ideas and philosophies about life! If you want to discover a deeper connection to God and make a difference in this world we invite to become part of our movement.
What do we believe?
We hold to the historic doctrines of the Christian faith as expressed in The Apostles' Creed. In addition to these historic expressions of faith we also believe the following in trying to live out this statement of faith.
We recognize that there are no easy answers in this world, so we believe in asking questions and wrestling with difficult issues.
There are plenty of churches willing to tell people what to believe and how to live their lives, but at Church of the Savior we believe we are on a journey, together trying to understand how to be in relationship with God, with each other and with the world.
We believe that together we can seek and discover the heart of God.
To help us on our journey we have historically valued well-informed and passionate preaching, inspirational worship, and small groups where people could grow in faith.
We believe that our personal faith leads us to work for a more compassionate and loving world.
We believe that Chrsitians are called to move beyond the walls of their buildijngs and minister in the surrounding communities. We believe we are called to be in ministry to and with all people.
We believe in having open hearts and open minds and welcome anyone interested in learning more about the Christian faith. We are a church that seeks to break down walls between people, and we are intentionally working to create a diverse community of faith. We are truly a church for ALL God’s children.
